Hyunho Jung/Page104 A-4 initial draft/Summer Session

What makes a good worker? If you were a manager, how would you like your workers to be?

I believe creativity and loyalty make one a good worker. No trait is enough to be a good worker. The more you have good characteristics, the better. Among those, however, creativity and loyalty is the new best features of being a good worker in any workplace.

First of all, creativity makes every worker a leader. By presenting their great ideas to the company of their own, creative workers carry the whole group in accordance with their lead. For example, when a new recruit in Google come up with a new business model, they would share it by having a presentation in a holistic level. In this way, the new worker's plan would be accepted as one of the new ideas that the company would pursue, and this is how a single newbie can influence a 21st century company. Also, they inspire the group to become more motivational. Even though a worker's idea was not sufficient to move the crowd in the company, their attempt itself can be a trigger to change the way of thinking or break mannerisms.

Loyalty is another necessity that a worker in a good company should have. It is a yardstick about how a worker respects their group and is dedicated to it. Being loyal to one's group means the worker respects their company and his workers. And in order to be so, the worker should think that the company fits to him and improves himself in a number of ways. For example, if you think your company is not smart enough to tuck you in their mediocre department, you want to leave them. On the other hand, if your company provides you a lot of insights and rooms to grow up by yourself, that company is surely considered from you as great. So, it is not the absolute loyalty that you must obey the rules and unconditionally pursue your team's ideas that I am talking about. Loyalty in this context means you choose to admire and are willing to follow the group for a long time with your self-driven dedication and sacrifice. This is critical in cherishing every worker's ideas and thus becoming a greater, a futuristic model of company for the next generation. You can find examples about this from many companies in Silicon Valley like Google and Apple, which are considered to treat their employees well and also remaining top tiers in their field. And also this is why we call them a post-bureaucracy. They are the prototypes for what the company has to be in the future.

In sum, creativity and loyalty are the essential traits that a 21st century worker should develop. Their creativity will make the team accomplish more and their loyalty would keep them united.

  1. Your essay is very straight forward and easy to follow. You brought up two main ideas with examples which supported your main points. It seems though you wrapped it up in a hurry seeing your conclusion.
My only suggestion would be to elaborate more on your conclusion and may be add an interview like the professor said?
    Good luck!

  2. Creativity is absolutely essential traits in 21st century. Today, business is an idea competition. One with greater idea and plan has more possibility to succeed. Thus creative workers are always invited as well as loyal ones. Loyalty have workers self-motivate and sacrifice for their company because they really love their career and want their company to grow. You are sufficiently informative along with examples. Two main ideas are cleary illustrated but I think it will be better for you to add up more details in creativity. Maybe you can put more background in intro and give better endding sentence in the conclusion. Well done:)
