YiJing Mo/Ch.4 first draft/summer session

                       Why do people work?

I suppose everybody has a question in his mind which is why I should work or what I work for. It 's natural for us to get the answers like money-earning or breadwinning. However, in a more positive context in real life, having a job could help meet our self-actualization needs , as well as spare people from vice.

First of all, working in an ideal industry is the most direct method for realizing one's ambitions. People are in need of self-actualization, which force them to think about how to make their dreams come true and indentify themselves in their career life. Especially for college graduates, work offers an opportunity to display their skills and helps to apply their knowledge in practice. In turn, the experience of work makes them better understand theoretical knowledge they have learned in books. And I believe that achievement of their ambition outweigh the contentment brought by money.

In most cases, vice is associated with the absence of work. Those people who don't want to work would get into a bat habit of idleness and waste their life in gloom. It can also be seen that people who need money to live but refuse to work easily trapped in such bad habits as ,heavy drinking ,drug abuse. Once effected by those dangerous vice, people would get trouble with the law.

In conclusion, work means far more than salary but a way of pursuing what we want for our entire life and avoid cultivating vice. In this way, it can help provide people a happy and healthy life.

  1. Overall, I think your essay structure is well organized...(intro/body/conclusion are all doing their function properly).

But although i agree with your opinion in general, i also firmly believe that money is important part of working hard. Without enough income to sustain your life,we wont possibly acheive many other values that we cherish....we have to admit that money really counts when choosing occupation. But i like your idleistic perspective too and really hope we can acheive self actualization through our jobs.

  2. I agree that having a work is not all about making money. But it would seem better if you provide details about how achieving your goal means more to you than its earnings. Also, it seems that people who doesn't have a job fall into a tragedy has gone too far.
