Dong Heui Kim/Page 52,53 First Draft/ Summer Writing

Love is a very abstract concept but one of the most powerful emotions a human can have. It is not something humans can take full control of. This feeling can have people go into ecstasy but can also lead to tragic ending. People who succeed in achieving love make it to marriage with their lovers. Unfortunately, numerous marriages fail to survive and end up in divorce. The causes of former phenomenon can be elaborated in two large forms; self-change and change due to external influence.

When love cools down, it leads to break up. Then why does not love last forever? It is scientifically proven that when people fall in love, Phenylethylamine hormone density abruptly rises.  This hormone paralyzes one's rationality and belches out passion at the same time, intoxicating them with ecstasy. Phenylethylamine is also called natural stimulant because it brings about stimulant action and makes people dreamy. As people are literally blinded by love as they are overwhelmed by the hormone effect, they hardly find any flaws from their lovers. With this wonderful feeling kept in mind, they end up getting married. Yet, the problem is that the expiry date for the hormone is only two to three years. When the hormone action stops, people began to notice weaknesses from their spouse as they start to see the genuine person itself. The more flaws they discover, the less love they feel for them. Eventually, their matter of affection changes internally and ends up in failure. In fact, humans enjoy thrill and receive impetus through new things. As they are fundamentally vulnerable at curiosity, some commit adultery because they are fed up with present spouses. This is not the case for everybody, but does take significant percentage of married couples.

External issues cannot be ignored as well in terms of love. People are not the main characters in Disney movie, love is rather realistic than they imagine it to be. Majority of couples break up due to an economic problem in Korea. Life of privation arouses constant fights. Even if a couple marries, full of confidence that they will win out hardships with love, money comes big in life when they really begin managing home life. Marrying is very realistic and the economic problem exacerbates when they have children. Korean parents spend great amount of money to children's education regardless of their economic status. Besides, current economic situation makes it even worse as average of people's living standard has descended globally. Couples who break down by this pressure give up their marriage lives. Furthermore, some people do not even reach to the wedding. Parents can be the biggest obstacle to lovers. In Korea, marrying someone is also having a close relationship with the spouse's' family. So parents of two people have to approve the marriage to be celebrated. However, adults consider numerous things and demand high qualities to their son and daughter's finance. This process splits up many couples as they fail to be liked by their parents and satisfy them.

Love is a wonderful emotion all humans long for but is the most difficult one to retain. People lose love through internal and external causes. They endeavor to overcome those adversities but if it were meant to be controllable, there would not be any failure. What happens just happens, but everyone who is in love at the moment or who has experienced parting learns a lesson and will succeed in forming better relationship with their future spouse.

  2. Your writing was great. The scientific analysis that you write on second paragraph was impressive. I think you well classified the reason of divorce. And i think other example in 3rd paragraph rather than 'parents' example. It would not directly matches with the topic of divorce/ YUN JUNG HWAN
