D-2: Do you admire the young wife?

Yes, I admire the courage of the young wife and her willingness to solve the problems with her husband. She loved her husband so much that she did not hesitate to go find the lion. I would hesitate if I was her because of the possibility of an attack by the lion. She is also very clever that she went to the lion everyday to make the distance closer. She made the lion to recognize her as familiar as it can so she was more easy to approach it. However, she is somewhat irrational that she just followed what the old judge said without doubt and ignored the danger of being killed. She should have thought about other better ways before putting the judge's saying into action. What she did is of course to be admired but she could have been more careful.

E-3: Imagine a different ending in the story of Esther and Laurence. Imagine that Father Paul does not speak to Laurence about Esther. How might the story continue? Would it end happily? Explain.

The story would end badly even though Father Paul does not speak to Laurence about Esther. Because he considered that Esther has lower status and thought her as a subject to civilize. So he would object the relationship between Esther and Laurence at last. They would break up and Esther might go back to her home.

  1. I had fun reading your written response. I think the thesis statement is good and the paragraphs are full of details based on the story.

  2. Item D:
Yes, it certainly was clever of her to think of getting closer to get familiar with the lion. I would never have succeeded that quest for my future husband. Moreover, Judge's remedy does look irratinoal and I do not know why she just conformed to his words. She could have been doubtful and more careful about it, but I think she was so just desperate about her problem. Good Job:)
